Born in Reggio Emilia in 1961, Paolo Simonazzi divides his life into two major
occupations, in fact he is a doctor as well as a photographer. On foot or by
bike, he experiences the places he visits and approaches the people he meets as
a real wayfarer explorer. He sings the poetry of the simple events and the
worldly things we look at without really seeing them; of the signs which have
settled in the flowing of time; of the strange amusing things able to give a
smile to everyday life. Among his numerous photo series, since 2003: Circo
Bidone, La casa degli angeli, Tra la Via Emilia e il West, Cardiologia, Mondo piccolo.
About the Beaut’Italy series, the critic Walter Guadagnini says: “the pictures have been
taken at different times (more especially over the last decade) and throughout
the whole peninsula. The tone of the entire project is given by those images
where the Italian flag does not appear physically, but through the three
colours that make it up. In those photos one sees a single theme coming
together, the ability of dealing with it by means of an iconography which is
assumed, and the more authentic nature of the author’s poetry”.
