Romina Ressia was born in 1981 in Argentina, in a small town near to Buenos Aires. Her
passion about art started at young age but it was not until her late 28, after
graduating in Economics, that she decided to dedicate her life to photography.
She studied Photography, Fashion Photography, Art Direction and Scenery in
different places including the Teatro Colón. Owner of a pictorial style, she has exhibited her work in Milan, Buenos
Aires, Edinburgh, Czech Republic and New York. The attempt to grant a fresh air
to the classic style is one of the essential characteristics of her work.
Sourcing her inspiration in the painting of the old
masters of the 14th to 17th centuries, such as Da Vinci, Raphael, Rembrandt, or
Vermeer, Romina Ressia composes her photographs like a painter constructs a
painting. Through the precise study of compositions and settings, she
appropriates the representational codes of yesteryear. Considering photography
as a unique means of expression, the artist raises questions of a social and
behavioural nature by combining the past and the present in a surprising and
creative way. Her photographic series Renaissance
Cubism was awarded at the Prix de la Photographie Paris
2014 in the professional categories Press/Performing Arts, Portraiture, and
Fine-Art.
