Marcello Fauci was born in Crotone, Italy, in 1984. He
graduated from the Institute of Photography and Integrated Communication in
Rome in 2010. In the same year he attended a workshop with Japanese artist
Rinko Kawauchi and produced reports from the Sardinian mines of Sulcis
Iglesias, and in Serbia. In 2011 he took part in the Young European Photography
Festival Menotrentuno, when he displayed his works at the Tiscali
Auditorium in Cagliari, Sardinia. In 2012 he worked in Egypt and in the Gaza
Strip, and took part in the Historical
Photography Festival Memorandum as a curator of the exhibition Diary
of Calabria, from the Randolfo Fauci Archive, at the Luigi Pigorini
National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography in Rome and at the Regional
Museum of Natural Sciences in Turin. In 2013 he walked from Milan to Crotone,
which led to the production of his Italy by Foot photoblog. He currently
lives in Milan, where he collaborates with several agencies. His
photojournalistic works are published in several magazines: L'Espresso, La
Repubblica, Witness Journal , XL Repubblica, Private Magazine, Internazionale.
He presents HeWasOut as follows: “This
project has evolved during the years of my formation. I started collecting my
own used camera rolls, without wondering where, when, why, how, and above all
what I had photographed on those films, in order to reuse them some time in the
future. So these double, triple, and quadruple exposures keep a personal memory
that does probably not belong to my reason, but which may be somehow related to
the world of dreams, where situations, places, people merge with no apparent
criteria."
