Marco Giammarinaro is a young Italian self-taught photographer (born in
Carmagnola, Turin, 1986) who finds new
macrophotographic subjects by elaborating experimental, innovative, young
shots. His research is essentially "illusionistic": the goal is to
make "enjoy" his works suggesting nearly tactile and olfactory
sensations. Since his series Trick or Treat?, he begins to prepare his
own subjects using materials apparently useless. In Velvety Geometries,
the false cream is whipped with shaving cream and oils. The same ingredients
are used for Coffee Flavored
Sensations, but in this case allowing the use of true ground coffee.
Instead Soft Bitterness, whose shape looks like a panna cotta dessert,
it is a base of foam and shower gel mounted on a cd-rom, there photographed and
then corrected in the color using a graphic retouch software.
The artist says: "I always wondered if you
can create something new today in photographic and artistic field … I think you need to decide to go
beyond the concepts and the definitions of art, photography, sculpture, and
where possible merge them together … I try to make 'taste' my works, which seem
to be puddings, ice cream, creams: a real false food. This establishes a game
between me and the observer: to believe seeing food and then come to know being
in front of shaving foam, hair gel, shampoo and stuccos, is surprising and fun. The series Inverso
was born by chance, when a continuous search for new materials directed me also
to the white stucco, artfully modeled upon a green glass ashtray; then the
images are inverted in colors to make them even more unrecognizable."
