Catherine Anyango is a Swedish/Kenyan
artist, currently a tutor in the Communication Art and Design department at the
Royal College of Art in London. She studied design at St Martins and the Royal
College of Art followed by an MA in English Literature at UCL. She has produced
live film events around London, including the Victoria & Albert Museum and
the National Film Theatre and has exhibited work internationally. Her films and
images are based on the real world but use landscapes that have been fabricated.
Because she works across platforms she enjoys participating in more than one
creative sphere and has produced work for Art Basel Miami Beach, the London
Design Festival, London Fashion Week and Design Miami Basel.
In 2010 the publication of her graphic novel
adaptation of Heart of Darkness was
met with critical acclaim including the Observer’s Graphic Novel of the Month.
In her extraordinary series of photographic illustrations for Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw the domestic
interior is represented in a succession of decreasing environments, from a city
to a room within a room, the edges we give to our personal existence
creating new settings for melancholy domesticity and the subtle horrors.
